Lucerne Festival, the worldly renown music festival based in Switzerland,
conceived this project in efforts to support the recovery of the Tohoku region through music.
The special venue designed for this project is called “Ark Nova,” a 18m x 30m x 36m (60ft. x 98ft. x 118ft.) portable concert hall.
It was designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki and British sculptor Anish Kapoor.
The venue seats approximately 500 people and can be used for various types of musical and staged performances.
The project also provides several educational programs for youth orchestras and events for the local community.

With the passing of the great conductor Claudio Abbado in January 2014,
this project aspires to establish the founder of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA to become a symbolic figure
in the artistic and cultural reconstruction and enrichment of the Tohoku Region.
